2012 Christmas at The Athenaeum*
The Holidays at The Athenaeum would not be complete without two beautiful 16 – 18' Christmas trees in The Athenaeum. Frank Burkard's crew from Burkard Nursery brings them in and Jacob Maarse's staff work their magic over three days to make sure The Athenaeum is holiday ready.
The trees come from Mossy Creek, Washington and are Washington Noble Firs. Frank Burkard tells us that the Washington Nobles are, arguably, the best trees on the west coast. On the Friday after Thanksgiving Frank and 12 of his guys managed to get our trees into The Athenaeum. For the tree in the Main Lounge they maneuvered the tree with a 12 foot-spread through a 39" doorway. Quite a feat! After getting the trees through the door they are then raised into place on their custom made stands. Frank says the stands they make are used on all of the large trees they install in the area.
The pros at Jacob Maarse have been decorating The Athenaeum for years and take special care to measure up to the expectations our members have when they come to ring in the holidays at The Athenaeum.
